Welcome to the official website of the Federation of International Walking Football Associations (FIWFA). We are the International governing body for the unique sport of Walking Football and the global voice of the sport – a sport that combines the beautiful game with accessibility, inclusivity, and health benefits for all.
The History of International Walking Football
Walking football began in England in 2011 and quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon. FIWFA was established in 2018 to unite nations under one set of rules and promote the sport globally. Today, walking football is played in over 80 countries, with major tournaments like the FIWFA European Nations Cup and the FIWFA World Nations Cup bringing teams together from across the globe.
Who Plays and Where?
Walking football is primarily aimed at men over 50 and women over 40, but it welcomes players of all ages and abilities. From Europe to Africa, Asia to the Americas, the sport is thriving in communities worldwide. Whether you’re looking for fitness, friendship, or competitive play, walking football offers it all.
FIWFA's Mission
Our mission is simple: to promote fun, fitness, and friendly competition through walking football. We set the definitive Laws of the Game, global standards, organise international tournaments, and ensure the sport remains inclusive and accessible. If you can walk, you can play!
Tournaments
We hold two tournaments at present. The European Championship and the World Nations Cup. The first two World Nations Cups have been held in 2023 and 2025. A third is planned for 2027 and there is another European Championship in the planning stage. We’d like to hold other regional tournaments in the future.
