The England over 60’s and over 50’s men’s teams are heading to Spain to defend the titles they won in the inaugural World Nations Cup of Walking Football that was held in England, at St Georges Park, in 2023.
Walking Football
Walking football, which has only been a recognised sport since 2011 is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports. Aimed initially at Men over 50, the game has expanded to include older age groups, women and mixed gender teams. With an estimated 100,000 players in England.
International Walking Football
The international governing body, The Federation of Walking Football Associations (FIWFA) was established in 2018 to manage and guide the growing international Walking Football scene. It staged the first international match between England and Italy in 2018, followed by a European Nations Cup the following year.
Their efforts culminated in the first World Nations Cup in 2023, which saw teams from Europe, Asia, The Americas and Australasia competing.

Following the success of the 2023 tournament, several countries bid to hold this year’s event, with Spain being chosen.
The tournament has been expanded this year with teams competing in men’s over 50’s, over 60’s, and over 70’s. Plus women’s teams in the over 40’s, over 50’s and over 60’s categories.
The nations being represented have also grown. The nations are; England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Basque Country, Cyprus, Jersey, Canada, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Morocco, Singapore, Nigeria, and Rwanda.
The tournament is being held in October, between the 21st and 24th and between the 28th and 31st, at the Torrevieja Sports City, in Alicante.
